Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. An Orthodontist is a specialist who has completed three years of post-graduate training to comprehensively treat these irregularities of teeth, jaws and face.
Orthodontic treatment involves maintaining aesthetic harmony, structural balance and functional efficiency. The orthodontic treatment modalities include simple removable plates, fixed braces to combination of orthodontic and surgical approaches based on the severity of the problems.
The timing of the treatment depends upon the type of problem, age of the patient, affordability and expectations of the parent and patient. The introduction of tooth colored braces (ceramic), invisible (lingual) braces and clear aligners have made this treatment more acceptable by the adult patients.
Department of Orthodontics is spread over approx 6000sq. feet on the 2nd floor of the college building.
